The Astronaut Wives Club by Lily Koppel 629.45 Kop

I loved, loved, loved this book. It was very readable and it kept my interest from the first page to the last.  I'm sure part of the reason I am so crazy about it is my age!  I remember these events and these people.  It seems that the wives were really the first group of people to go from normal lives to 'stardom' over night.  They had to keep up a cheerful facade at all times.  NASA did not want their husbands to be stressed in any way!  So they dealt with the homes, the children, the press and the loneliness by supporting one another.   They also dealt with the fact that women were constantly throwing themselves at their husbands - who were gone for weeks or months on end.   These women are an important part of our history.  I am glad we can finally read their stories.
